Biodiversity challenge – Welwitschia

Awesome leaves

Bizarre bifoliate
Desert dweller,

Leathery-leaved
Primeval perennial,

Ancient appendaged
Coniferous conundrum,

Westerly wind-whipped
Shredded succulent,

Drought-defying
Namib native,

Sea-fog sifting
Moisture magnet,

Sunlight screening
Serpent shelter,

Money-making
Tourist trap,

Botanist baffling
Floral freak.

Biodiversity challenge – Sidewinder

Horny rattlesnake

How handy that the female sidewinder
Leaves a sandy trail behind her,
A telltale Braille reminder
Imprinted in her wake,
So a randy male won’t fail to find her
Even if he is blinder
Than a desert blind snake.
